FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What Is Tallow? Tallow is a natural fat rendered from the suet or kidney fat of cows. It is used in skincare for its moisturizing properties. Packed with fatty acids, tallow helps moisturize, heal, and protect the skin. Tallow is bio-compatible, meaning its fatty acids and nutrients closely match those of our skin, making it highly effective for maintaining a healthy, glowing complexion.

Does Tallow smell stinky? Our tallow is dry-rendered once from grass-fed suet, preserving its skin-loving nutrients and natural profile. Because we avoid over-processing our tallow, it retains a natural scent, which many describe as buttery or nutty. This scent fades quickly once applied to the skin. If you prefer to avoid the natural tallow scent, we offer a variety of scented Whipped Tallow options.

Are your products safe for sensitive skin types? Our Tallow Products are gentle and nourishing, making them a great choice for even sensitive skin types. However, if you purchase or use our products containing essential oils, please note that they may cause reactions in some individuals. We recommend performing a patch test before full application.

Is Tallow safe to use on acne prone skin? Tallow has a comedogenic rating of 2. While its fatty acid profile can be slightly comedogenic, tallow’s antimicrobial triglycerides may benefit others by restoring a compromised skin barrier. Results vary, so we recommend a patch test.

How to store and use Tallow? Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Tallow can melt when temperatures exceed 80°F. Always keep the lid tightly closed. Use clean, dry hands or a spatula to scoop out the product. If your Tallow arrives melted, place it in the refrigerator to resolidify or contact us for rewhipping instructions.

Will Tallow help extra dry skin? Yes! Tallow is wonderful for extra dry skin. Apply to damp skin or mist with a hydrosol before application to lock in extra moisture.
